On Poverty and Racism
They say it ain't good
When you show your cunning self
But when you have to beg for food
Being honest is of little help.
When you show your cunning self
But when you have to beg for food
Being honest is of little help.
Sit in the heat, sit in the rain;
Is it the best way, you use your brain.
But you know what? The rich don't care,
About the miseries the poor share.
Oh! Please don't spit there
Thats where I sleep dear:
And don't you piss there
My food is in there!
Yeah you heard it right
But you still will fight,
With the people and the government,
Everytime they have us money, lent.
For the rich get richer,
And the poor - poorer:
Very few things in this world
Are more truer,
Than this clichéd phrase.
You see, we live in such a country
When dogs are prayed but men slayed,
On the basis of their so-called caste
How long do you think can such a rule last?
And the black men, kicked out and murdered
Just because God had them coloured.
And yet they say we live in an utopia
But all it is, is another sad but true dystopia.
And the truth is even if you are deeply greived
It might for an hour or two indeed,
But then what happens is, no one really cares
Even though they beg for food in tears.
And the truth is even if you are deeply greived
It might for an hour or two indeed,
But then what happens is, no one really cares
Even though they beg for food in tears.

Poem - #12 | Feelings
Thoughts on the Poem
I would like to express my feelings on this largely ignored topic that troubles my soul; and I'm pretty sure you'll also give a second thought to this.
It was a Sunday afternoon and I was enjoying my usual siesta in my couch, trying to regain my lost energy after the week's arduous work. When suddenly a loud sound aroused me, I wondered what might have happened outside and ventured towards the balcony. The sight that lay infront of my eyes devastated me and changed my mindset of the world forever. I saw a destitute, old, lifeless man laying under a steel cupboard.
Presumably the man was a coolie (a person who carries heavy loads) whi had fainted. I was horrified when I saw him in that state of agony and pain; and the saddest part was no one even noticed that he was lying there. I rushed down the banisters, quickly put on a coat and went out to help the man. I tried to push the cupboard off the man while simultaneously calling out for help. After I was finally able to remove the cupboard a man rushed towards me and started to help me raise the man. Honestly speaking, the man looked more like an animal rather than a human, smelling like rotten rats, and skin filled with infections. I tried to take him to a hospital but no taxi-driver agreed to put him in their seats. Without finding any other option, I and the other man who just rushed towards me carried the old man to the public hospital. Over there, the doctors refused to take him in but after a lot of requesting and pleading he was allowed in. Three days later, I got the news that he was in a better state now and he need to stay in the hospital for another week.
This all really changed the way I perceived humanity. There really isn't anyone who cares about these un-fed half-dead people.
Yet again proving this world is just another sad but true Dystopia even though seen as a Utopia.
